Nurses have a very strict dress code in clinical and in lab and
To ensure proper attire, students will be asked to purchase their uniform through a central supplier of the schools choice. The supplier will be available in the month of September. You must purchase at least one uniform, from this supplier, although 2 are recommended.
Further information about uniforms will be provided on orientation day
No dress code is required for classroom, other than the 3 B rule (see below).
Student are required to purchase the following items prior to attending school or shortly after:
When a student is in uniform they represent NBCC and professionalism, thereby the following rules apply:
Uniforms:
Uniforms must be clean, and ironed.
Uniform is not to be worn back and forth to lab or to the clinical sites.
Jewelry:
One pair of stud earrings are acceptable (no hoops).
Plain wedding band is the ONLY ring that is acceptable, no other rings.
No necklaces or bracelets.
No facial jewelry (except a small nose piercing (no hoops, must be a stud).
Nails:
No nail polish; No acrylic nails; nails should be short and clean
Hair:
Hair must be kept neat and clean
If hair is longer than the shirt collar, please ensure that it is styled in a neat, swept-up manner; no moving ponytails.
Hair accessories must be plain white, brown or black elastic, clips that are the same color as the hair are acceptable.
Gentlemen – neatly trimmed mustaches and beards are acceptable.
Shoes:
Plain white nursing shoes or sneakers. No open toes or heels. White socks or white panty hose are required
Extra's:
When students are not required to wear a uniform but are still representing the college, the following rules apply:
Hospital ID tags are required in hospital facilities.
NBCC name tags will be provided for you and must be taken to Agency Visits.
Lab coats may be required. Check with the instructor prior to the visit / practice.
Business attire is required when visiting facilities outside the college (dress pants/skirt/dress, absolutely not jeans, t-shirts or gym attire (legging are not considered dress pants).
The rules are in place due to medical asepsis (infection control) and safety for both yourself and the patients. As you learn about nursing, the reason for the strict rules will become much clearer.

You are now entering a career in which you are required at all times to be professional.

- One lab coat (may also be purchased via the uniform supplier)(optional for PSW's)
- One warm up jacket or white sweater (optional)
- White duty shoes or white sneakers ( we understand that white sneakers are difficult to get so please get shoes as white as possible)
- Stethoscope ( the quality is important, the better the quality the better your changes are of hearing what you need to hear).
- Bandage scissors
- Watch with a second hand ( mandatory item: rubber or leather strap as it can be cleaned

- Name tags and facility I.D's are the only pins to be worn on the uniform (supplied by NBCC)
- Hospital I.D. cards must be visible and on your person at all times in the hospital facilities.
- ALL hospitals/health care institutions have a scent-free policy; NO perfumes, colognes or aftershave; please use scent-free cosmetics, hair products and body lotions.
- Lab coats, warm-up jackets and sweaters are not to be worn over uniform when on the floor or in the lab areas
